Scott Burgess
What I seek more than anything is a pen-pal that’s around my own age, for when a person gets to be my age, loneliness becomes an unwanted friend, but one that’s always there to haunt the person. My thoughts are along the lines of others out there with the same unwanted friend who can pick up the pen and get lost in writing. I know this is my objective. I’m not looking for anything but friendship. People out there that also want a friend to ward off that dreaded unwanted friend by the name of loneliness.
I grew up as an orphan going from foster home to foster home, children’s homes to boys’ homes to the state hospital (1970, age 12), where they gave me eight electrical shock treatments. Then reform school. At age 15, I went to Texas prison. After 11 years there, I was on the run for seven years, the only years of my adult life that I’ve been out in the free world. I screwed that up getting a 30-year sentence in Massachusetts in 1993. I just got transferred to federal prison in Arkansas to serve my last sentence, 96 months.
The things I like to do is run track and write. I’m basically self-taught. When I first went to prison, I could write things like my name but didn’t write much. I like country, classic rock and old soul music. This photo is from about 12 years ago but it’s the only one I have.
