Hello,

My name is Carolyn, and I have decided to take a chance to find a Christian friend and pen pal who would enjoy talking about life outside of prison.  Actually, I’m an introvert by nature, but I continue to have a curious mind and imagination.  Living in a 55+ community, having cancer, and then, at age 73, going to jail for the first time was quite a culture shock.

Being a retired special education teacher did nothing to prepare me for this life. Prison invades and permeates each day, so writing, reading, and doing art is my escape.  My hobbies have been traveling all over the world, playing golf, taking cooking classes, and learning all forms of art.  In prison, I have colored pencils, so I concentrate on abstract, modern art, and collage.

I have two sons, three granddaughters, and three great-grandchildren.  My sons are not good communicators, so our conversations are brief and revolve around my desire for early release, family, and life in Arizona.

My nickname is Granny for two reasons.  First, I am the oldest inmate at my facility, and I stand out as I move along with my walker.  The best reason to be called Granny is because I crocheted so many Granny Square blankets for the Chapel donation program.  Crochet has been another form of art for me, allowing me to choose colors and patterns.

People here don’t play Canasta or Bridge, and they look at me as if I’m from another planet, but I’m just from another era.
